Overview

Magnattack® Lab Test Magnets feature a high magnetic force contained within an insulated canister for safe storage when not in use. With a magnetic strength exceeding 11,000 gauss, they provide reliable detection of weakly magnetic materials, stainless steel fragments, and magnetic stones in both dry and wet food products.

Lab Test Magnets help locate and identify foreign materials that metal detectors reject, and are ideal for early detection of abnormal metal findings in food processing and for establishing normal levels of metal contamination. Lab Test Magnets help improve plant operation efficiency and reduce risk of metal fragment contamination. The Lab Test Magnet is easy to remove, inspect, and clean, ensuring quick and efficient removal of metal fragments.

How can I tell if I have magnetic contamination in my process lines?

Lab test magnets, trial and indicator magnets, screens, magnetic separators, metal detectors, and x-ray machines are all common methods of determining the presence of metal contamination. Magnetic separators and metal detectors/x-ray machines work together and complement one another to reduce the risk of foreign contamination.

Please note: Installation of certified test magnet systems can be arranged by Magnattack to determine or indicate the presence of metal fragments. This can be particularly useful in bag tip and raw materials intake to determine whether supplied ingredients or raw material is contaminated with metal fragments.

In addition, these magnets can be placed on some product types immediately before packing locations or final bulk outloading. Of course, in some cases an indicator or test magnet may not find much, as only a small percentage of the product stream will be checked. With current regulation and risk of brand damage and product recall arising from a metal contamination event, it is very wise to have adequate magnet protection along with other complementing protections, such as metal detection.

Extract from AMR Consulting’s ‘A basic guide to magnets in the baking industry’: “A careful analysis of foreign matter retained by screens, magnets and metal detector rejections over a period will give a good indication of the present hazards. Absence of customer complaints, although reassuring, is not recognized as a safe guide as the big issue may be just around the corner.”

Why is there a sleeve over the outside of these magnets?

This enables metal collections that may be collected out of a sample (e.g. a sample from a metal detector reject) to be easily removed into a bag or collection container by removing the outer sleeve from the magnet (essentially demagnetizing the sleeved portion).

How many sizes is the Lab Test Magnet available in?

It is available in two sizes: Mini & Standard.
